Hewlett Legal Golf Day

Hewlett Legal hosted our golf day on Thursday 8 September at the beautiful Wolston Park Golf Course. Despite the overcast conditions, the day turned out to be a spectacular success raising $7,500 in support of Hummingbird House, Queensland's only children's hospice.

Hummingbird House is a truly special organisation that provides support for families loving and caring for a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition. Families’ lives are taken up by the 24/7 responsibilities of caring for their baby, child or young person living with a life-limiting condition.

Lucas first became involved with the charity in 2013 when he met founders Gabby and Paul Quilliam during their search for a Brisbane hospice location. Through this introduction and pro bono work, Lucas, Anna and Hewlett Legal have been proud supporters of the charity ever since.

I am humbled that our annual golf day is able to help Hummingbird House make every moment precious when time is short,
— Lucas Hewlett, Director

Following the golf day, the Hewlett Legal team presented the cheque and toured the hospice to see first-hand the amazing work that is done in the facility and meet the people who help support and care for these families every day.

This donation means three separate families can access essential family support services, including a range of therapies during a four-night respite break, wherever they live in Queensland
— Claire Andrews, Specialist Individual Giving Fundraising

On the day, 52 golfers represented 13 teams of 4 who competed in a 9-hole Ambrose style competition.  Teams were playing for the glory and kudos of first prize and also the ‘Have a crack for a Kraken (spiced rum)’ in the Nearest to the Pin competition sponsored by Preston & Co. The 9-hole shotgun start commenced at 2.30pm and teams were quick to divide into focused and not-so-focused groups.

The day culminated in a golf enthusiast’s dream, with scores locked, we had to go to a “putt off” to determine the victors of the day! You couldn’t script this finish.

In the end SW Brokerage was victorious on the day at 5 under par and was presented with wines kindly donated by Blambles Finance.  The winner of the nearest to the pin competition was Nick Seeley, only a few feet away from the pin. On behalf of the entire Hewlett Legal team and Hummingbird House, we would like to thank our generous sponsors and prize donors for getting behind this wonderful cause (listed below). Without their generosity and support, the event would not have been such a success.
