2023 Hewlett Legal Charity Golf Day

On Thursday, 7 September the sunshine shone on the picturesque Wolston Park Golf Course into the backdrop for our annual charity golf day, and boy, did it turn out to be an extraordinary day! As kangaroos hopped in the distance and kookaburras provided the soundtrack, the Wolston Park Golf Course transformed into an atmosphere of camaraderie, marking this year's event as one for the books.

Imagine 80 eager golfers, all ready to tee off and have a blast at the 9-hole Ambrose style competition. Registrations had hit an all-time high, and it was clear that our guests were more excited than ever to be a part of this fantastic day.

But, of course, our annual golf day isn't just about golf. It's about spreading awareness and raising vital funds for a cause near and dear to our hearts – Hummingbird House, Queensland's only children's hospice. This remarkable organisation provides support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting condition, helping them create precious moments when time is short. Our connection with Hummingbird House goes back to 2013 when Lucas first met its founders, Gabby and Paul Quilliam. We've been proud supporters of this incredible charity ever since, and this year marked our third golf day in support of their mission.

Lucas Hewlett, our Director, expressed it best: "With the help of our generous clients and referrers, we are able to send a powerful message to these families, that they are not alone during a highly emotional and financially challenging time."

This year, we welcomed a mix of familiar faces – clients, referrers, and friends – along with newcomers, new sponsors, and donors. The event kicked off with networking and a putting competition at the Club House at 12:30pm. Armed with sponsored goodie bags, teams then hopped into their golf carts for the 9-hole shotgun start. It didn't take long for teams to divide into the serious and not-so-serious groups, all playing for the glory of first prize and the coveted Nearest to the Pin award.

With more participants than ever, we utilized the full 18-hole course and ran two concurrent 9-hole competitions. And just like a footy grand final match (after all, 'tis the season), we held a thrilling "Putt-Off" competition between the winners of the front and back courses.

In the end, Perrier Ryan emerged victorious over Pave Financial Solutions on the Putting Green. If you missed the action, be sure to watch the intense final putting moments in the video below.

A last-minute auction item, generously donated by an anonymous contributor, set the stage for an exciting boost to the final tally, skilfully managed by the Harcourts Marketplace team.

During his speech, Lucas conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for their extraordinary kindness, generosity, and for helping create more cherished memories for families in need.

“Congratulations to all involved, these funds will provide a family with six nights of care for their child and family and can access essential family support services, including a range of therapies during the respite break," said Sarah-Jayne Curry, Specialist Community Fundraising.

We are thrilled to announce a grand total of $14,000 raised for Hummingbird House, surpassing all of our previous fundraising efforts. And, if you couldn't make it to the event but still want to contribute, our fundraising page is still open for donations.

A huge thank you goes out to our generous sponsors and prize donors (listed below) who played a pivotal role in making this event a resounding success. We can't wait to make next year's event even bigger and better! Stay tuned for more details, and we hope to see you there.
